December 8-10, 2016 will bring big state tournament feel crowds and great match ups again this year. Our best field of teams ever.

Out of state teams will consist of British Columbia Christian from Vancouver, Canada; our first international team featuring two 7 footers! Wakefield High School from Norfolk VA, expects to bring a competitive team. Smoky Hill High School from Denver, CO will bring THREE D1 commits and an ESPN top 25 ranked 2018 player. Princeton Hall from Charlotte, NC will bring us some great basketball from basketballs heartland, North Carolina. Our final out of state team will be a 3 time Shootout team from Mesa Mountain View in Arizona, with arguably one of the country’s top coaches in Gary Ernst, now in his 35th plus year. Coach Ernst has sent too many D1 players to college to mention and led his team oriented teams to many top finishes in Arizona.

Our in state teams will once again, for the 6th time, invite national power, Lone Peak High from Alpine, UT. Orem High School, the host school, coached by Golden Holt and founder of the Shootout, now in his 7th year at Orem High School. Since he took the helm has brought Orem High School its first State Championship. Springville High School coached by Justin Snell will bring a talented team to the Shootout. Timpview High School from Provo, UT coached by 3rd year coach Kevin Santiago always has top ranked teams from Utah. Wasatch Academy, a private Mount Pleasant, UT based team, coached by Curtis Condie will start the season as a top 10 ranked national team! Coach Condie led his Tigers to the National Championship in 2015-2016 and is expected to have a great team again this year.

Coaches, to get our website updated we need 1-3 player profiles from each team. A picture and bio on these players ASAP.

Next, once you have your team chosen in November send us your roster and team pic, ASAP.

Our now famous “Host Family Program” will have a local family contact you in late November to be your guide during your stay. They will join you for team dinners provided by the Shootout, usually do a fun local activity, and generally help you with everything you will need. The exception is these families will not be able to provide local transportation. Remember that Orem is about an hour south of Salt Lake City International Airport.

Out of state teams will once again stay at either the Marriott Hotel in Orem or Comfort Inn in Orem as well. These hotels are about 2.5 miles from the venue. We will provide more information on exact hotels soon so your families that may travel can stay at those hotels if they wish. We have negotiated special rates.

Out of state teams will be on their own for food on Wednesday, our arrival day. The hotels have a hot buffet breakfast, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Shootout will provide dinners both Thursday and Friday with your host families. We provide one lunch on Friday at the Orem High School cafeteria. This is a great cultural exchange with our Orem students that they look forward to. Your host family will assist you with this activity. You will be on your own for lunch Thursday. We will provide pizza for your entire team and staff on Saturday. Please coordinate with your host family on what time you would like your pizza on Saturday.

We provide up to 3 SOPH and JV games per team for $75 per game. These games are played Friday and Saturday mornings beginning at 830am before the varsity games. Notify us ASAP if interested in scheduling SOPH or JV games and how many. Please bring or send a check to the Great Western Shootout for these games.

We will provide ALL teams with a nice gift pack provided by Pro Look Sports. Coaches will receive a nice Shootout shirt as well. Your host families will help here. The location for this gift pack pickup TBA.

The Shootout provides trainers to all games, but does not provide ankle taping or other wrapping services. The Shootout provides water, cups and towels for all games. Locker rooms are NOT secured so have players keep bags with them during games behind the bench.
